考研英语翻译中的“一词多义”――business

考研翻译中的一词多义现象多出现在一些基础词汇上，如common、business、share等。

近15年翻译真题中，common一词共考查过三个释义普通的、日常的和共同的。同common一样，business也是基础词汇，在翻译中出现是考查多层释义。

business在考研翻译中(2000-2014年)共出现过三次，即：

2005年(48)题This alone demonstrates that the television business is not an easy world to survive in, a fact underlined by statistics that show that out of eighty European television networks no less than 50% took a loss in 1989.

2006年(49)题But his primary task is not to think about the moral code, which governs his activity, any more than a businessman is expected to dedicate his energies to an exploration of rules of conduct in business.

2009年(49)题Since our chief business with them is to enable them to share in a common life we cannot help considering whether or not we are forming the powers which will secure this ability.

2005年(48)题中，business和television连用，比较容易推测business的意义，再加上后面的an easy world和整个句子讲的是欧洲电视业的发展，所以，business考查的是行业的意思。在接下来的2006年49题中，in business是个固定搭配，意为在商业中，在这个句子中，in business作为定语修饰conduct，意为商业行为。2009年49题中的business，business不是行业也不是商业的意思，考查的意义较难推测，要事，指important matters that you have to deal with。如果学生能够记住Business before pleasure(工作在先，享乐在后)这句谚语的话，这个释义就容易理解和记忆了。

总之，这类基础词汇除了考查一词多义外，还会考查熟词生义、常用搭配等。考生在复习词汇时，切记词汇的深度记忆，全面掌握这类词汇的常考释义。同时在做真题的过程中，比如阅读中，善于总结这类词汇，因为这些词汇的释义在阅读中也考查过。词汇的学习和记忆需要考生长期坚持和重复，考研不致，单词不止。

附上上面3个句子的参考译文，以便大家练习：

2005年(48)题：这一点就足以证明，要在电视行业里生存下来并非易事。统计数字尤其说明了这一事实，在80个欧洲电视网中，多达一半在1989年亏损。

2006年(49)题：但是他(普通科学家)的首要任务并不是考虑支配自己行动的道德规范，正如我们并不指望商人专注于探索商业行为准则一样。

2009年(49)题：既然我们的主要任务是使他们在日常生活中懂得分享，我们禁不住要考虑的是，我们是否正在形成一种确保他们获得这种能力的力量。
