词根：pos, posit = put 放置
1. compose
助记：com(共同)+ pos(放)+ e 放到一起组成
释义：v. 组成，写作，作曲
举例：
(1) The force would be composed of troops from NATO countries.
该部队将由北约各国的军队组成。
(2) Vivaldi composed a large number of very fine concertos.
维瓦尔蒂创作了大量非常优美的协奏曲。
2. dispose
助记：dis(分开)+ pos(放)+ e 分开放布置
释义：v. 处理，处置，布置
举例：
Dispose of these old newspapers.
把这些旧报纸处理掉。
3. exposure
助记：ex(出)+ pos(放)+ ure 放出去曝光
释义：n. 暴露，揭露，曝光，揭发
举例：
Exposure to lead is known to damage the brains of young children.
已知接触铅会损害幼童的大脑。
4. impose
助记：im(使)+ pos(放)+ e 强行放置强加
释义：v. 征税，强加，施影响
举例：
Parents should beware of imposing their own tastes on their children.
父母应该提防把自己的兴趣强加给孩子。
5. opposite
助记：op(反)+ pos(放)+ ite 反着放相对的
释义：a. 相对的，对立的;n. 相反的事物
举例：
Jennie had sat opposite her at breakfast.
吃早餐时，珍妮已坐在她的对面。
6. propose
助记：pro(提前)+ pose(指出)提前指出提议
释义：v. 提议，建议
举例：
Hamilton proposed a change in the traditional debating format.
汉密尔顿建议对传统的辩论形式作一个改变。
7. deposit
助记：de(向下)+ pos(放)+ it 向下放沉淀
释义：n. 堆积物，沉淀物，存款，押金;v. 存放，堆积，沉淀
举例：
(1) I put down a $500 security deposit for another apartment.
我为另一套公寓支付了$500押金。
(2) There is some deposit in the bottom of the cup.
这只烧杯的底部有些沉淀物。
词根：press = 压
1. pressure
助记：press(压，逼迫)+ ure(名词后缀)压力
释义：n. 压力，压迫，强制，紧迫
举例：
My father suffers from high blood pressure.
我父亲有高血压。
2. compress
助记：com(加强)+ press(压)使劲压压缩
释义：v. 压缩，摘要叙述
举例：
He never understood how to organize or compress large masses of material.
他从来不懂如何组织或缩简大篇材料。
3. depress
助记：de(向下)+ press(挤压)压下使消沉
释义：v. 使沮丧，使消沉，使萧条
举例：
I must admit the state of the country depresses me.
我必须承认国家的形势令我沮丧。
4. express
助记：ex(出)+ press(挤压)把挤压出来表达
释义：a. 急速的，特殊的;n. 快车，快递;v. 表达，表示
举例：
(1) A special express service is available by fax.
一项特快服务通过传真可以实现。
(2) I wish to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to you again.
我借此机会再一次地向大家表示衷心的感谢。
5. impress
助记：im(进入)+ press(压)压进去盖印
释义：v. 印，盖印，留下印象
举例：
Their honesty and hospitality leave an indelible impress on her life.
他们的诚实与好客给她一生留下了难以磨灭的印象。
词根：min = stand out 突出
1. prominent
助记：pro(向前，在前)+ min(伸出，突出)+ ent(的)向前伸出的突出的
释义：a. 卓越的，显著的，突出的
举例：
Einstein was a prominent scientist.
爱因斯坦是一位卓越的科学家。
2. eminent
助记：e(出)+ min(突出)+ ent 突出的杰出的
释义：a. 显赫的，杰出的，出众的
举例：
Eminent physicists from all over the world came to the United States to celebrate the centennial of Einsteins birth.
全世界著名的物理学家来到美国庆祝爱因斯坦诞生一百周年。
3. preeminent
助记：pre(前的)+eminent(杰出的)超过杰出的卓越的
释义：a. 卓越的，出色的
举例：
Europe was poised to reassert its traditional preeminence in Western art.
欧洲准备重新确立其在西方艺术上的传统卓越地位。
4. imminent
助记：im(进入)+ min(伸出，突出)+ ent 伸进来即将来临的
释义：a. 即将来临的，逼近的
举例：
There appeared no imminent danger.
眼前似乎没有危险。
词根：cide, cis = cut, kill 切，杀
1. precision
助记：pre + cis(切)+ ion(名词后缀)像用刀切过的一样精确
释义：n. 精确，精密度，精度
举例：
These instruments are capable of very high precision.
这些仪器可以达到很高的精密度。
2. incisive
助记：in(向内)+ cis(切)+ ive 深刻的
释义：a. 深刻的，尖锐的，激烈的
举例：
He gave a clear and incisive presentation of the matter.
他对整件事做出了一个清楚而又深刻的描述。
3. excide
助记：ex(出)+ cide(切)切出去切除
释义：vt. 切开，切除，删除
举例：
It is necessary to excide the tumor in time.
及时切除肿瘤是很有必要的。
4. suicide
助记：sui(自己) + cide(切，杀)自己杀自己自杀
释义：n./vi. 自杀 a. 自杀性的
举例：
For one reason or another, she committed suicide.
不知什么原因，她自杀了。
5. homicide
助记：homi(人) + cide(切，杀)杀人
释义：n. 杀人，杀人者
举例：
He has been charged with homicide.
他被控告杀人。
6. patricide
助记：patri(父亲)+ cide(杀)杀父
释义：n. 杀父
举例：
Cultural patricide is caused by ignorance!
文化弑父，其实是无知弑父!
词根：tract = pull 拉
1. attract
助记：at(加强)+ tract(拉)把注意力拉过来吸引
释义：v. 吸引，引起注意
举例：
The flower show attracted large crowds this year.
今年的花展吸引了大批观众。
2. abstract
助记：abs+ tract(拉)被拉开使心不在焉
释义：a. 抽象的，理论的，深奥的;n. 摘要，概要;v. 使心不在焉;摘要，提炼
举例：
(1) Abstract paintings did not appeal to him.
抽象派绘画引不起他的兴趣。
(2) She tried to abstract my attention from my work.
她企图转移我对工作的注意力。
3. subtract
助记：sub(在下面)+ tract(拉)拉下来减去
释义：v. 减去
举例：
If you subtract 2 from 8, you get 6.
8减去2是6。
4. distract
助记：dis(分开)+ tract(拉)(注意力)被拉开分散
释义：v. 分散，转移
举例：
The film managed to distract me from these problems for a while.
这部影片分散了我的注意力，让我暂时忘记了这些难题。
5. contract
助记：con(共同)+ tract(拉，拽)将双方利益拉到一起合同
释义：n. 合同，契约，婚约;v. 定约
举例：
You have to contract with us for this business.
为了这次交易，你必须和我们签订合同。
词根mini = small 小的
1. minimum
助记：mini(小)+ m + um(数)小的数最小值
释义：a. 最小的，最低的;n. 最小值，最小化
举例：
Repairing your car will cost a minimum of 100 dollars.
修理你的汽车最少要100美元。
2. minimize
助记：mini(小)+ m + ize(动词后缀)使小最小化
释义：v. 最小化，将减到最小
举例：
Governments consider it prudent to minimize the risk.
各国政府均认为把这种危害降低到最小程度的做法是明智的。
3. minority
助记：minor(小或者少)+ity(表名词)少的状态少数
释义：n. 少数，少数民族
举例：
These children are only a small minority.
这些孩子只是很少的一部分。
4. diminish
助记：di + mini(小)+ (i)sh(使)缩小减少
释义：v.(使)减少，(使)变少
举例：
Unexpected expenses diminished the size of my bank account.
意外的开支使我的银行存款减少了。
